How CIA, French Intelligence Agency Conspired to Assassinate Thomas Sankara

On April 6, 2022, Burkina Faso’s ex-President Blaise Compaorรฉ was tried, convicted and sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment for murder. It  took 35 years for justice to catch up with him for murdering his revolutionary socialist predecessor, Thomas Sankara (the “Che Guevara of Africa”), in a 1987 right-wing military coup.  How  long will justice take to catch up with the CIA and its French intelligence counterpart, the Direction gรฉnรฉrale de la sรฉcuritรฉ extรฉrieure (DGSE), for what appears to have been their part in masterminding or enabling the plot that overthrew and killed Sankara? As young military officers in Burkina Faso during the 1970s and 1980s, Thomas Sankara and Blaise Compaorรฉ were the best of friends. The two traveled the country playing in a musical band together and Sankara’s parents adopted Compaorรฉ as his parents had died when he was young. Mumias East constituency Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali has sternly warned his fellow politicians of plans to heckled leaders with dissenting voices during the upcoming burial of his deceased Matungu colleague Justus Murunga.

While addressing a press conference at the home of the deceased in Kakamega on Monday, Washiali noted that dire consequences awaited individuals who have been used by politicians as spent cartridges to execute their selfish heckling assignments.

The lawmaker revealed that the anticipated function, whose date is yet to be known, would be attended by high profile leaders, hence, the security apparatus had been enhanced to wade off trouble-makers.

According to Washiali, rented goons who would attempt to stage heckling drama would be identified and the gate and denied access to the event.

The vocal MP argued that the deceased ought to be given a send off that befits his status, bereft of shame and distraction.

"We have beefed up security here and before you arrive, we will ensure that before you arrive here with you team of hecklers, we catch you at the gate," said Washiali.

Washiali asserted that although the late legislator was elected on a Amani National Congress (ANC) party ticket, he made friends with politicians from all sides of political divide, more so with himself and the deputy president Dr William Ruto.

He claimed that politicians from all political parties including ANC, ODM, Jubilee, FORD-Kenya and Wiper Democratic Movement were invited to the event.

However, he called on them to ensure that their political speeches become more unifying than dividing.

Justus Murunga died on Saturday while receiving treatment at a Mission Hospital in Kakamega. He was suspected to have died of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-2019).
